- Diving and health risks (barotrauma, decompression sickness, nitrogen narcosis).
- Diving Tables and Dive Computers:
- Introduction to dive tables and how to plan a dive within no-decompression limits.
- Proper use of dive computers to monitor depth, time, and decompression status.
Practical Session 1: Basic Skills in a Pool
- Learning to Breathe Underwater: Focus on regulator use, relaxed breathing, and breath control.
- Mask Clearing and Buoyancy Control: Practicing mask clearing (partial and full mask floods) and achieving neutral buoyancy.
- Emergency Ascents and Controlled Descent: Introduction to controlled descents and safety stops.
End of Day Reflection and Q&A:
Participants will reflect on the day’s lessons and discuss any questions with instructors.
Day 2: Advanced Diving Theory and Skills Development
Morning Session: Advanced Diving Theory
- Dive Planning:
- Components of a dive plan: depth, time, site, conditions, and emergency procedures.
- Signaling and communication techniques underwater.
- Introduction to dive tables and planning multi-level dives.
- Environmental Awareness:
- Marine life and ecosystem considerations (safe interaction with wildlife, environmental impact of diving).
- Understanding ocean currents, tides, and visibility in different conditions.
Lunch Break
Afternoon Session: Practical Diving Skills
- Advanced Buoyancy Control:
- Practice achieving and maintaining neutral buoyancy.
- Advanced exercises such as hovering and controlled finning.
- Navigation:
- Underwater navigation techniques: using a compass and natural navigation methods.
- Plan and execute a simple navigation dive in the pool or shallow water.
Practical Session 2: Open Water Training (Shallow Water Dive)
- Skill Development:
- Practicing buoyancy control, mask clearing, and communication.
- Performing a shallow water dive with instructors to gain comfort in open water.
End of Day Reflection and Q&A:
Debrief on skills learned, dive experiences, and any challenges faced.
Day 3: Emergency Procedures and Diving Safety
Morning Session: Diving Safety Protocols
- Emergency Procedures Overview:
- Recognizing and managing diving emergencies.
- Steps for handling an out-of-air situation, unconscious diver, or separation from a dive buddy.
- Diving First Aid:
- Introduction to first aid for diving incidents: CPR, rescue breathing, and treating decompression sickness.
- Use of emergency oxygen equipment and when to administer oxygen.
Lunch Break
Afternoon Session: Rescue Skills Practice
- Self-Rescue Techniques:
- How to recognize early signs of distress and avoid panic.
- Skills to regain control of buoyancy and re-establish calm.
- Buddy Rescue Techniques:
- Towing a distressed diver.
- Assisting a diver in distress, including controlled ascents.
Practical Session 3: Rescue Scenarios in Pool
- Mock Rescue Drills: Participants practice emergency rescues in controlled conditions with instructors.
- Out-of-air situations, unresponsive diver, buddy separation, and controlled ascents.
- Emphasis on communication and teamwork during rescues.
End of Day Reflection and Q&A:
Group review of the rescue scenarios and lessons learned.
Day 4: Diving in Open Water and Skill Refinement
Morning Session: Open Water Dive Planning
- Dive Briefing: Detailed briefing on the dive site, conditions, and risks.
- Dive Plan Development:
- Participants create their own dive plans, considering depth, time, and emergency protocols.
- Safety considerations specific to open-water environments.
Lunch Break
Afternoon Session: Open Water Dive 1
- Practical Dive:
- First open-water dive, focused on applying skills learned so far (buoyancy, navigation, buddy checks).
- Exploration of the environment, maintaining safety, and ensuring comfort underwater.
Post-Dive Debrief:
- Discussion of challenges encountered, improvements, and adjustments.
- Review of dive plans and debrief of emergency situations encountered.
Day 5: Final Open Water Dive and Certification Assessment
Morning Session: Final Dive Planning and Briefing
- Review of Skills: A quick refresher on emergency procedures, dive planning, and key techniques.
- Final Dive Briefing: Focus on independent dive planning, group diving, and the final open water dive.
Lunch Break
Afternoon Session: Open Water Dive 2 – Final Assessment
- Final Open Water Dive:
- Participants demonstrate mastery of all essential skills, including navigation, buoyancy control, buddy checks, and emergency procedures.
- This dive serves as the final assessment for certification.
Post-Dive Debrief and Feedback:
- Instructors provide individual feedback on performance and safety.
- Certificate of Completion is awarded to participants who meet the course requirements.
Emergency and Risk Management Procedures
- Pre-Dive Checks: Every participant and instructor must complete a buddy check before every dive.
- Emergency Plan: A clear plan for responding to emergencies, including quick access to first aid kits, emergency oxygen, and emergency evacuation procedures.
- Medical Assistance: Availability of on-site medical staff trained in diving accidents, with a clear line of communication for immediate emergency response.
End of Camp Evaluation:
Participants will complete a final evaluation of the course, providing feedback on the curriculum, instructors, and overall experience. The results will be used to improve future camps.
Certification:
Upon successful completion of the course and all assessments, participants will receive a recognized scuba diving certification (e.g., PADI Open Water Diver or equivalent), validating their skills and readiness for independent diving.
This comprehensive curriculum ensures that participants are well-equipped with the necessary skills, knowledge, and experience to dive safely and confidently in various conditions while adhering to the highest standards of safety and environmental responsibility.
