SayPro Development Quarterly Writing and Journalism Competitions (SCDR.3.12)

The SayPro Development Quarterly Writing and Journalism Competitions (“Competition”) is designed to foster creativity, promote high-quality writing, and engage SayPro employees, writers, and journalists. The following Terms and Conditions apply to all participants and submissions to the competition. By submitting an entry, participants agree to abide by these rules and regulations.
1. General Terms
- Eligibility:
Participation in the Competition is open to all individuals who meet the eligibility criteria outlined in the competition announcement. Entries are accepted from employees, freelancers, and the general public, provided they meet the specific submission criteria set forth in the competition guidelines.- Employees of SayPro or their immediate family members are not eligible to participate.
- Competition Period:
The Competition opens on January 21, 2025, and the final submission deadline is March 31, 2025. Any entries submitted after this deadline will not be considered.
2. Submission Guidelines
- Eligibility of Submissions:
Only original work created specifically for the SayPro Development Quarterly Writing and Journalism Competitions is eligible for submission. Submissions must not have been published previously in any form (print, digital, or otherwise), nor should they be under consideration for publication elsewhere at the time of submission.- Word Limit: Each submission must comply with the specified word count limit as defined in the competition guidelines.
- Formats: Entries should be submitted in the specified file format (e.g., Microsoft Word, PDF, or other formats as instructed by SayPro).
- Categories: Entries must fall under one of the designated categories, including but not limited to articles, essays, opinion pieces, or other journalistic formats.
- Multiple Submissions:
Participants may submit more than one entry, but each entry must be submitted separately and comply with the competition’s rules and guidelines.
3. Judging Criteria
- Evaluation of Submissions:
Submissions will be judged based on a set of predefined criteria, which include but are not limited to:- Creativity and Originality
- Relevance to the Theme
- Writing Quality
- Impact and Engagement
4. Copyright and Usage Rights
- Ownership of Submissions:
Participants retain the copyright to their original work, but by submitting their entries to the SayPro Development Quarterly Writing and Journalism Competitions, participants grant SayPro a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, distribute, and display the submission in any media (print, digital, and/or social media platforms) for promotional, educational, and public relations purposes. This includes, but is not limited to:- Publication on SayPro’s website
- Use in SayPro’s newsletters and social media accounts
- Display in internal communications or external marketing materials
- Inclusion in SayPro’s reports or case studies
- Credits:
SayPro will always provide proper credit to the author of the work when published or shared. This will include the participant’s name and any other relevant details requested by the participant at the time of submission. - No Payment for Usage Rights:
By entering the competition, participants understand that the use of their submission by SayPro for promotional and non-commercial purposes will not result in compensation. The competition’s prize or awards, as outlined in the competition rules, are the only form of reward for participation.
5. Prizes and Awards
- Award Distribution:
The winners of the SayPro Development Quarterly Writing and Journalism Competitions will receive prizes as specified in the competition announcement. Prizes will be awarded to the highest-scoring submissions in each category.- Recognition: Winners will be featured on SayPro’s platforms, including the website, social media channels, and other communication outlets.
- Prize Restrictions: Prizes are non-transferable and cannot be redeemed for cash or other alternatives.
- Recognition of Top Performers:
In addition to the winners, top-performing entries may also be featured in SayPro’s publications and communications.
6. Confidentiality
- Data Protection:
All personal information collected during the registration process will be used solely for the purposes of the competition and will be handled in accordance with SayPro’s privacy policies. Participants consent to the use of their contact details for communications related to the competition and prize distribution. - Confidentiality of Submissions:
All entries will be treated as confidential by SayPro and the judging panel. The work will not be shared with third parties unless expressly authorized by the participant or required for competition purposes (such as publication, sharing with sponsors, etc.).
7. Disqualification
- Non-Compliance:
Entries that do not comply with the competition’s guidelines (including submission format, word count, eligibility, and originality requirements) will be disqualified from the judging process. - Plagiarism:
Any entry found to be plagiarized, or suspected of being plagiarized, will be disqualified from the competition immediately, and the participant will be notified. SayPro reserves the right to take further action if necessary. - Failure to Meet Deadlines:
Submissions must be received by the stated deadline. Late submissions will not be accepted under any circumstances.
8. Limitations of Liability
- Liability Disclaimer:
By entering the competition, participants agree to release and hold SayPro, its employees, affiliates, and agents harmless from any and all claims, losses, or damages arising from their participation in the competition, including any intellectual property disputes or damages resulting from the use of their submission. - Force Majeure:
SayPro shall not be held liable for any unforeseen circumstances or events beyond its control (e.g., natural disasters, strikes, system failures) that may delay or prevent the competition from taking place as scheduled.
9. Modifications to the Competition
SayPro reserves the right to modify or cancel the competition at any time, including altering the competition rules or prize distribution, provided such modifications are made in accordance with applicable laws and communicated clearly to participants. Any such changes will be announced on SayPro’s official website and other communication platforms.
10. Agreement to Terms and Conditions
By submitting an entry to the SayPro Development Quarterly Writing and Journalism Competitions, participants acknowledge that they have read, understood, and agreed to the above Terms and Conditions. Participants further agree that they have complied with the eligibility requirements and competition guidelines.
